Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Incorporated since 1998
What is your primary product or service?
We are a non-profit agency providing support and educational services to families of divorce and separation, and to the legal and mental health professionals who work with families. We offer services in the form of support groups and/or educational workshops for kids, parents, stepparents, GLBTQ parents, victims of domestic abuse, parents in high conflict, attorneys, judges, therapists, educators, and more.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are a small social service agency with a lean budget and limited staff. There is a very hands on feel to our agency, and you can always get a person on the phone when you call. We are always available to help point people in the right direction to finding the support they need to help them through their divorce or separation.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
There is only one Kids First Center, but we are able to contract out our main program (The Kids First Program) to several other areas around the state for maximum service to those in need.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are located at 222 St. John Street, Suite 101, in Portland, Maine. We are situated on a bus line, and there is easy access from the highway (exit 5 off of 295) and ample, free parking.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, credit and money orders
Which areas do you service?
Our 4-hour co-parenting education program, The Kids First Program, is available in the following counties: Cumberland, York, Androscoggin, Sagadahoc, and Franklin.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
We are a private, non-profit, 501(c)3 agency
What are your hours of operation?
We are open from Monday to Friday, 8:00 - 4:00 pm. We also run workshops on Saturdays from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That they were helped by friendly, knowledgeable staff when they contacted our agency and found our programs to be extremely useful.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"We have something we want you to hear. You at times fight so much we want to disappear. There are things we should rearrange. For example, your talk about the other parent should really change. At times I feel I want to burst. Please take a step back and put your kids first!!" written by Kids First divorce support group attendees
