Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
34 years, since 1982
What is your primary product or service?
I design gold and silver Christmas ornaments and jewelry which we make by hand here in Cumberland. We also make knitting accessories and other gifts items. Our gift shop carries my work as well as other hand crafted work by local artisans. We feature cards, jewelry, pottery, glass, wooden items, baskets and fiber.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I am primarily self-taught. My mother was an artist and so I had a lot of exposure to the arts early in life. I became interested in acid-etching when my nephew worked in a company that made computer circuit boards with this process
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We feature unique gifts, not found in most other stores, hand made in the USA. Many are Maine made.
Our customers are looking gifts that are not found in larger chain stores and we like to support local and national talented artists.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
This is our only location, but we also exhibit at craft shows in New England. My work is also sold
in other gift shops and knitting shops around the country.
